RICHMOND UNITED SOCCER CLUB |
Improving our community through youth soccer |
CLUB GROWTH |
A few years ago, the club had six teams and out of those six teams, one team was a U-10 girls team. Today, we proudly announce that the club now has thirteen teams of which six are girls teams! We also have a successful U-6 pee wee program that has contributed to the growth of our U-8 teams. Through the hard work of our volunteers, we expect to continue growing while implementing programs that encourage perserverance with soccer and also academics. |
GIRLS TEAMS ATTEND COLLEGE! |
It has been observed that Richmond lacks opportunities for girls to participate in soccer. Club officers have made a concerted effort to change this and have made great strides in providing soccer activities for girls in Richmond and surrounding areas. It is our belief that soccer is only one piece to the puzzle. We have implemented an academic component to our girls program which includes college visits. The girls have been to two campuses in the past few months. The visits have been excellent and we look forward to continuing the academic program. |
A majority of the girls are potential first generation college students and this serves as one small step towards making sure the girls achieve their goals. Thank you St. Mary's College for such an excellent trip!!!! Click Here for Pictures of St. Mary's College Trip!! U.C. Davis Visit - Sunday, August 15, 2009 Over 20 girls (over 40 in total attendance including family) attended U.C. Davis for an inspiring tour of the U.C Davis campus. The girls were hosted by Raquel Orozco, a Ph.D. candidate (Chemical Engineering) with a B.S. Degree from U.C. Berkeley and also a Richmond High School graduate! The girls saw a laboratory, gym, and even caught a glimpse of the U.C. Davis soccer team at the end of practice! Raquel is a true role model and showed the girls that someone from Richmond can achieve great things with hard work! Thank you Raquel for speaking to our girls! Click Here for Pictures of the U.C. Davis Trip!! |
St. Mary's College Visit - Sunday, September 13, 2009 Over 30 girls (over 60 in total attendance including family) attended St. Mary's College for an amazing tour of the campus which included a soccer clinic with the Women's soccer team. The girls also participated as ball girls during the St. Mary's College Tournament. The girls and their family members gained valuable exposure to a wonderful campus and many were inspired to pursue a college education. |
